AVOID BYPASS
SURGERY
There's now a safer alternative to bypass surgery, it's called Enhanced
External Counterpulsation (EECP). It's approved by Medicare for patients
with the angina. EECP is a nonsurgical therapy that dramatically improved
circulation by pumping blood from the legs to the heart thus creating
circulatory pathways around blockages in coronary arteries. The amazing
part is that EECP is without risk while roughly 1 in 30 patients
undergoing bypass surgery dies on the operating table.
So tell anybody that you know who is about to undergo bypass surgery
that there is a safer alternative available.
NAPPING FOR
HIGHER SALES AND PRODUCTIVITY
Some companies have actually
created napping rooms in their facilities in or allowing employees to nap
at their desks. The reason why this simple. Rested workers are more alert,
in a better mood, and concentrate better, as reported by William Anthony,
author of The Art of Napping at Work. He has conducted a survey in
which 70 percent of the more than 1000 respondents said that they nap at
work.
My suggestion would be to experiment with meditation, as I believe it
can leave you more refreshed and revived than taking a nap. I will do that
every once in while when I need more energy late in the afternoon.
GOT A VIRUS -
BANG ON A DRUM FOR HEALING
In a recent study a group of 10 people beat on hand drums for an hour.
Afterwards, blood samples showed heightened levels of immune cells called
natural killer cells that seek out and destroy both cancer cells and cells
infected by viruses. A control group had no change. Does this mean
drumming will cure cancer or a virus? We don't know; however it would be a
fun way to increase the strength of your immune system as well as reduce
stress. Now if only the neighbors won't mind.
QUITE A LIFE
LESSON
A few weeks ago I went white water rafting on the Gauley River in West
Virginia. This is normally a Class 5 river, which means the rapids are big
stuff. Because of the flooding in West Virginia, the water speed and level
were twice the normal flow, which meant there was "really big
stuff" to run.
On one major rapid, I got knocked out of the boat. This was a dangerous
rapid because there it had a place in which I could get stuck and never
get out. Fortunately, my high school swimming skills kicked in and I was
able to avoid the danger by just a couple of feet (whew - otherwise, I
wouldn't be writing this column). When they pulled me back into the raft,
I was exhausted and could barely move; however we had more rapids coming
up fast.
Now this was actually the part that amazed me. After a couple of deep
breaths and about 30 seconds to a minute of rest, I was back paddling
again - no adrenaline rush, no after effect shaking, no freaking out. Just
doing it.
As a result of this experience I have a view life as a raft trip down a
wild water river. At times things are calm and placid and at other times
we're facing a rapid. So when difficult times hit what do you do? Do
things happen in life that knock you out of the boat? Do things happen
that you don't like? Do people say things that strike you the wrong way?
Do you then swim as hard as you can to get back into the boat or do you
just give up and leave? When you get back in the boat of life, do you pick
up your paddle again and give it half your energy or do you give it your
all?
Since we are all individuals taking the ride on this raft called life,
what choices are you making? Are you giving 100%? Whatever choice you
make, remember to enjoy the ride!
FURTHER INPUT ON
LICORICE
A subscriber reminded me on the recommendation I made for taking licorice
for asthma in the last issue that you need to check with your Doctor first
to make sure you don't have high blood pressure. If you do, then don't
take licorice as it can raise it even higher.
VITAMIN C FOR
ALLERGIES
Another reader shared with me that his wife's vision was affected by
taking too much Vitamin C. I checked with a friend of mine who is a
Holistically oriented MD and he had never heard of this condition (he's
given doses as high as 150,000 mg per day with no side effects). Since I'm
recommending these large dosages of C only for use during the hay fever
season, the likelihood of a negative response is minimal. However, if your
vision is affected simply discontinue the Vitamin C.
Another use for Vitamin C relates to Congestive Heart Failure (CHF).
People with CHF have arteries that are too constricted. A study in Germany
found that Vitamin C caused the arteries to open wider letting more oxygen
and nutrients get to the tissues hat need them. The patients were given an
injection of Vitamin C first and then they took 2 grams of oral Vitamin C.
UNDERSTANDING
YOURSELF AND OTHERS
I'm now involved with On-Line Learning. I have a company I'm working with
that has developed several on-line courses that enable you to be more
effective in your job. It allows teams to work more successfully, too. If
you'd like to see free previews of these programs you can go to this
website and see the different programs. The site is http://www.crkilearn.com/promotion/321987331
After you've reviewed it, contact me for a price quote on having you
and/or your employees experience the full on-line training.

THE INTERNET
SUCKERS ME IN
Last month I wrote about hard coughing as a way to stop a heart attack
when you're alone. I got the information from a subscriber who had gotten
it from what she thought was a reputable site on the Internet.
Unfortunately, it turns out not to be true. Score one for misleading
information on the Internet. I apologize for running the information.
JUST FINISHED
EXERCISING - WHAT SHOULD YOU EAT?
So you've just finished exercising and you're hungry, what should you
eat? A study published in Medicine and Science in Sports & Exercise
reported that if you eat high fat foods after a workout, you're likely to
eat more calories than you burned exercising (oops).
If you want to eat something then head for complex carbohydrates, such
as, fruit, veggies and whole grains.
